Nassau Chimney Chase Cover — Custom Metal Protection

A chase cover is a flat metal cover that fits over the top of a prefab chimney chase — the box-like structure that surrounds the metal flue pipe on factory-built fireplaces. It prevents rain from entering the chase.

Signs of a failed chase cover include: rust stains running down the chase exterior, water stains on the ceiling or walls near the fireplace, and a rusted or collapsed metal cover visible from the roofline.

Rust staining on siding below the chimney top almost always means the chase cover is failing. Galvanized chase covers rust through over time — the rust water runs down the chase and stains the siding. Replacement with a stainless steel cover stops the rust and prevents water from entering the chase.

Galvanized steel chase covers typically last 7-15 years in Nassau County — shorter on South Shore properties near the water. Stainless steel covers last 25+ years in most conditions. If you're replacing a galvanized cover, upgrading to stainless is worth the marginal cost difference.

Minor seam separations can be sealed with roofing sealant as a temporary measure, but rusted or perforated covers need full replacement. Attempting to patch a severely deteriorated galvanized cover rarely lasts more than a season. Replacement with a properly fitted stainless steel cover is the permanent solution.
